Happy Halloween!

Magic Mouse

This morning I visited the nearby Apple Store. After looking and trying the new Magic Mouse, I got one for $69. Do you need one for your Mac? It depends. The Magic Mouse is not revolutionary, but (1) it is pretty, and (2) it does make navigation easier (there is no scrolling mini-ball to get dirty) and faster by using your fingers on the mouse (see photo below). I like it!

While at the store, I also looked at the new desktop iMacs. The 27" wide-screen model has the best screen I've ever seen. If my 24" wasn't a rather recent purchase, I would seriously consider upgrading. You have to see the 27" to appreciate it (at the same price as the previous 24"). In spite of the 27" inch monitor, I think my next Mac will be the 17" laptop -- also amazing with extraordinary battery life! It won't replace the desktop, but will give me portability plus added security against crashes.

the answer is 50

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? Fifty
One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say,
"I could have done that!"

panoramas with the iPhone

If you have been following this blog for a while, you know that I take many photos with my iPhone. One of the most interesting programs for it is Pano from Debacle Software. For $2.99 you can do the following. The first photo is a regular iPhone photo (the iPhone's lens is a moderate wide angle).
The second is a composite of three shots using Pano.

V2 Zacuto Z-Finder

What is a V2 Zacuto Z-Finder? You might know the Hoodman magnifier. I got one of those a long time ago for my Nikon 995 Coolpix so that I could see the screen in sunlight and also as a magnifier. The Zacuto appears to be the Ferrari (or at least the Corvette) of magnifier/finders. For a detailed review, click here. Even at the high cost, I'm going to consider one, particularly for the Canon 7D I'm planning to get.

Canon EOS 7D DSLR As Video Camera

First look review here.

Operation Migration

A fitting video to follow up my recent visit with Operation Migration folks.

stop talking & shoot

Please stop talking about it and start shooting it until you run out of space either on your card or analog film. It is easy to try and talk a photo into existence and it won’t be very good. I have watched so many beginning photographers try and do that only to fail because they never made the commitment to fully work at the craft of making photographs that mean something. Without the commitment – there is the zero of the perfectly boring image boring the hell out you. If you start shooting for the enjoyment of exploring the light with your camera, you are already ahead.
